ACE – When my single “Ashawo” went viral, I saw so many derogatory comments about women, which made me realize that many people misunderstood the message I was passing through the song. I made “FACE” to change that narrative and appreciate not just the women in my life, but women all over for how beautiful, strong and special they are.
GBEMI – This song was inspired by Davido and Chioma’s wedding. I was at a recording camp, very close to the venue of the ceremony and there was so much traffic, no one could move. I was standing by the window looking at all the chaos, then my producer started working on a new beat and some lyrics popped in my head and kept repeating itself in my head. So I told him I wanted to record on the beat. The lyrics were “Orókòn gbemi lokon”, in English it means “there’s a word boiling in my mind”. I started recording and just wrote about my feelings at that moment. We all go through our feelings, but we always have to remember to rise above and keep moving forward.
CASANOVA – Casanova is a personal story about a girl who made me feel very special, but then she wanted me to change a lot of things that she supposedly liked when we started dating. That didn’t work out so now I’m just focused on being the best version of myself. I feel a lot of people can relate to these emotions too.
EDE – “Ede”, an Urhobo word that translates to “Day” is a reflection of my experiences in life. I sing about how no matter what you do, you can’t satisfy everyone.
BAD BOYS – This song started out as a freestyle, while hanging out with friends, listening and just vibing to some beats. This particular beat came up and I started to sing about our struggles on the streets, the things we’ve done just to make ends meet.
HENNESSY – Another personal song to me, when I made this song, I was so down about the way things were around me and going in my life. I was lost in my thoughts, I was just in my head for months thinking but also writing too. This song reminds me of where I am coming from and the awakening of my consciousness. It is a motivation to me, a reminder to watch how I speak when I am angry. I know a lot of people can relate to this song too.
