The Vibe: Late-night thoughts, honest conversations, and healing.

a black and white photo of a dark forest

Listening to BELLE’s debut EP, PHASES, feels less like reviewing an album and more like reading a page out of someone’s diary. It is rare to hear an artist open the door to their heart so wide on the very first try. Mixing smooth R&B with the gentle rhythm of Afrobeats, this project is the sound of a woman writing her way through pain to find peace.

BELLE said she wrote these songs to "feel lighter," and you can honestly hear that relief in her voice. It is a journey through heartbreak, confusion, and finally, clarity.

1. SECOND CHANCES

The EP starts with "Second Chances," and it immediately pulls you in. The beat is catchy, but the story is something we have all been through: that confusing feeling of wanting someone you know isn't good for you. When she sings, you feel the conflict. It’s that push and pull of a toxic relationship. BELLE isn’t trying to be perfect here; she is just being human. She admits to wanting a "second chance" even when she knows better. It is a warm, addictive song that feels like a confession.

2. GOOD INTENTIONS

If the first track was about confusion, this one is about facing the truth. "Good Intentions" is my personal highlight. The guitar on this track is beautiful, it feels like it is singing along with her. The lyrics here hit hard because they are so honest. She sings: “Don’t lie to yourself, baby you got to love… someone who keeps you in check when you lose control.” BELLE balances being strong with being vulnerable. When she admits, “I don’t want to be lonely, sometimes I need someone to hold me,” it feels incredibly brave. She is saying what many of us are too afraid to say out loud: that we have needs, and that good intentions aren't enough to make a relationship work.

3. MAKE UP YOUR MIND

The final track brings the story full circle. On "Make Up Your Mind," BELLE sounds different; she sounds sure of herself. The sadness is still there, but she is no longer waiting around. She gives a gentle ultimatum: “Tell me what you’ve been searching for… I want to give you my love, so make up your mind.” As a listener, you feel proud of her in this moment. She is ready to love, but she is tired of the games. It is the perfect ending to the EP because it shows she has grown. She isn't just asking for love anymore; she is demanding the respect she deserves.

FINAL THOUGHTS

PHASES is a beautiful debut because it doesn't try to hide anything. BELLE writes songs that feel like conversations you would have with your best friend at 2 AM. She wanted this music to heal people, and I think she succeeded. Listening to this EP reminds you that it is okay to be sad, it is okay to miss someone, and it is okay to eventually let go. BELLE proves that being soft and open is actually a superpower. Verdict: A deeply human and touching debut that speaks straight to the heart.
