“Can You Answer” is inspired by a real-life event that took place while Mila GxG was wor king out at the gym. A close friend, who was also going through marital issues, unexpectedly called with news that would change their friendship forever. During this emotional phone call, Mila GxG learned that their friend no longer wished to remain in contact, leaving him grappling with a whirlwind of emotions including anger, sadness, and disappointment.
The raw emotional journey is encapsulated in the lyrics, especially highlighted in the line, “My day’s just gone from bright to blue.” This lyric reflects the immediate impact of the phone call and the subsequent introspection that led to the creation of the song. Through writing, Mila GxG began to understand the deeper emotional struggles their friend was experiencing, which were manifesting in their drastic decision to end the friendship.
