AFRIFF is 15, and it opened in Lagos with ‘Lady’.

Okay News reports that the Africa International Film Festival opened on Sunday 1 November with an invitation-only screening of ‘Lady’, a 93-minute UK–Nigeria drama written and directed by Olive Nwosu. The cast includes Seun Kuti and Bucci Franklin. The festival runs to 7 November across Victoria Island and Lekki. The theme is ‘Frames of the Future: Africa’s Creative Intelligence’.

    The week, as listed

Okay News is the source for the public programme HNA is using. Eleven free masterclasses, registration required. The AFRIFF Film and Content Market at Twinwaters, Lekki, on 2–5 November. A closing film, Hakeem Kae-Kazim’s ‘It’s the Blackness’, on 6 November. The Globe Awards on 7 November.

QED.NG reports Rita Dominic, Wale Ojo, Osas Ighodaro and guest of honour Djimon Hounsou at the opening gala. Two outlets, one opening. That is the corroboration.

    What is not in yet

No financing, co-production or sales figure from the market is in this story, because none had been announced in the sources opened for Report 12. The thing to watch, in the radar’s own words, is an announced deal. Until then the news is the opening, the film, the room, and the dates.

The same week holds other Nollywood money: DStv’s new Nigeria prices from 5 November, Facebook’s support for the London and Lagos premieres of Funke Akindele’s ‘The Four’, and a box-office total that is close to a record the desk has not confirmed. Those are written separately, with the record left unconfirmed on purpose.

Best of Nollywood nominations also landed in the window. Independent Newspaper Nigeria is the only source the radar opened, so the nomination counts stay in the briefing, marked as single-source, and are not repeated here as settled.
