Dakar 2026 Opens with Kiné Lam, Baaba Maal and Daara J Family
The Youth Olympic Games opened on 31 October at Stade Abdoulaye Wade with Kiné Lam, Baaba Maal, Daara J Family, Dip Doundou Guiss and Khaby Lame.

Dakar opened an Olympic Games with mbalax, hip-hop, and a national anthem.
Olympics.com, as logged in HNA’s 2 November radar, reports the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games at Stade Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio on Saturday 31 October. The radar describes it as the first Olympic event held in Africa. The show ran about two hours. It opened about two weeks of competition for more than 2,700 athletes in 25 sports. The ceremony sat just before the radar’s window. The coverage ran through 1 November.
Who was on the stage
The performers and artists named by Olympics.com, via the radar: Kiné Lam, Kya Loum on the national anthem, Baaba Maal, Daara J Family in a hip-hop street battle scene, Dip Doundou Guiss, Souleymane Faye, visual artist Boubou Design, and ambassador Khaby Lame.
SeneNews, on 1 November, covered Kiné Lam’s performance. That is the second source. The names above are the ceremony as those two reports have it. HNA has not added anyone the posts on X have added.
The radar’s analysis, labelled as analysis: it was the biggest global stage for Senegalese music this year, mixing mbalax heritage and Dakar hip-hop. The programme is the fact. The ‘biggest’ is the desk’s reading.
The Games close on 13 November, on the radar’s diary. HNA is not tying a playlist or a sponsor to the Olympic name. The radar’s own note says to check IOC media rules before any of that.
