    Open your eyes

OSANJO wrestles with love and self-worth.

OSANJO, born Stacy Osanjo, writes in a sound that moves between Afro-fusion, Afropop, Afro-folk and acoustic rock. Warm acoustic instrumentation and contemporary African colours give her room for honest reflections on love, vulnerability, and personal experience.

“Open Your Eyes” is the pain of finding that the man she loves has fallen for someone else, and the gap between the relationship she believed they shared and the one in front of her. The song is an appeal to a man she thinks is making the wrong choice. She asks him to see what he stands to lose, and how he could turn toward someone else when she believed she held a special place in his life. His confession leaves her between disbelief and disappointment. She had thought she was the apple of his eye.

Worth, and the feeling that stays

At the centre is the tension between self-worth and an attachment that has not left. She understands herself as a strong, independent woman, someone who should be able to see when a relationship is no longer serving her and walk away. Emotions do not follow that logic so neatly. She can question his decision and stand in her sense of worth, and still carry the feelings. Heartbreak can test even a strong sense of self. Understanding your worth does not make letting go any less human.
